Superstar show from Hamilton singers

A pair of Hamilton singers are headlining a production of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Steven Struthers and Douglas Muir will be taking to the stage at Motherwell Concert Hall next month.

And they will be reprising the roles for Hamilton Operatic and Dramatic Club’s production of the epic rock gospel opera.

Steven has previously taken the lead role of Jesus, while Douglas played high priest Caiaphas, for a version by Airdrie and Coatbirdge amateur Dramatic Society.

A spokesperson for the club said: “Steven has appeared with many local theatre groups including Scottish Opera and the Tron Theatre and some of his recent credits include One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest and also appearing alongside his wife in Two-Thirds cabaret performances.

“Douglas has been involved in stage musicals since 1972, when he appeared with Hamilton Operatic Club, and continued his stage career with local musical societies up until 2006, when he hung up his boots on musicals after playing Jud Fry in Oklahoma for East Kilbride Light Opera Club.

“In recent years Douglas has appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe in productions of One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest and Allo, Allo! and has been working with his own theatre group The Fringe Players, writing and directing short children’s plays and pantomimes for Cancer Research UK and South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture at Chatelherault Visitor Centre.

“We are delighted to have them reprise their roles in our upcoming production.”

Steven is a graduate of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, and both he and Douglas have long careers in theatre and have television appearances in Taggart and several commercials under their belts.

Jesus Christ Superstar will be at Motherwell Concert Hall from Tuesday to Saturday, October 22 to 26. Get tickets by emailing tickets.hodc@gmail.com or online at www.hodc.co.uk. Alternatively, contact club president Christopher MacFarlane on 07944 453 123 or May Weir on 01698 267442.
