Superstar mare Apple's Jade gives birth to first foal

Superstar mare Apple's Jade has given birth to her first foal.

The 11-time Grade 1 winner retired from the track last year after a glorious career.

Now she has a daughter having been covered by Walk In the Park last year.

The foal is taking her first steps at Noel and Valerie Moran's Bective Stud in Meath.

If the apple doesn't fall from the tree the Morans will be very happy having forked out €530,000 to buy Apple's Jade for their breeding operation.

The couple, who made their fortune from a financial payments business, have become big players in national hunt racing.

As well as buying horses to race on the track they are investing heavily in the breeding side of things, with Apple's Jade a big purchase to join their broodmares.

After being covered by Walk In Park, plans are now in place for the new mother to be covered by former high-class flat horse Crystal Ocean.

Speaking prior to her sale, Eddie O'Leary of Gigginstown House Stud said: “Apple’s Jade is a very special mare. She was the first mare ever to win 11 Grade 1 races, a feat now matched only by the great Enable, and we hope she can mirror what she achieved on the track through her broodmare career.

"Gigginstown has never been about having a National Hunt breeding programme, which is why she will be offered for sale at Goffs in December. Apple’s Jade could be the ultimate blue hen for any serious National Hunt operation."
