Superstar chart-topper Ed Sheeran tipped as new Bond movie theme artist

He’s the man with the golden strum… and now Ed Sheeran is being lined up to sing the theme for the new Bond movie.

Film-makers have got the global chart-topper firmly in their sights after 007 star Daniel Craig became a fan thanks to his daughter.

Craig, 51, is a producer on Bond 25, as well as making his final appearance as the suave spy.

A Bond source told the Sunday Mirror: “Daniel was introduced to Ed’s music by his daughter Ella.

“She loves Ed, and Daniel now really likes his stuff too and wants Ed for the theme tune.”

Sheeran, 28 – who has sold more than 150 million records worldwide – has admitted he has already written a Bond theme “just in case”.

He revealed in 2017: “I’ve had a theme tune written for about three years.”

The singer said he had not actually been asked to do so at the time, but insisted: “It’s good.”

Previous artists providing the theme song have included Shirley Bassey , Paul McCartney , Madonna and Adele .

The insider added: “There was talk of Adele doing it again as her song was such a major hit, but Ed is under serious consideration.

“Daniel is not just the lead actor on the movie but also one of the producers, so he has huge sway over every aspect.

“The sticking point is that Ed translates more to a younger generation, while Adele was more across all ages – so there are other artists they’re also looking at.”

Adele won the Oscar for best original song for her title track for 2012’s Skyfall. That was echoed by Sam Smith in 2015 with Spectre theme song Writing’s on the Wall – the first to be a UK No1.

Sheeran’s Shape of You has sold more than 40 million copies – beaten only by White Christmas.
