Wednesday April 8 will bring a so-called supermoon, which looks bigger and brighter than usual due to its relative close proximity to the Earth.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the sky is expected to be slightly cloudy except in some parts of western Japan on Wednesday, but the bright glow of the moon will be visible if it clears in the evening.
The moon orbits the Earth in an elliptical orbit. The distance between them will shrink to about 357,000 kilometers on Wednesday, the closest they will be to each other this year.
According to the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ), the supermoon looks about 1.14 times larger in diameter and about 30% brighter than the farthest full moon of the year, which will occur on Oct. 31.
"It is difficult to go out because of the coronavirus, so this supermoon may make cheer you up." said Hidehiko Agata, chief of the Public Relations Center for NAOJ.
