Supermoon 2020 Ireland: Stunning photos as Flower Moon pierces through clouds to shine over Dublin

Clouds couldn't stop the majestic Flower Moon shine bright over Irish skies on Thursday night.

Photographers, astronomers and members of the public sat out as the final supermoon of the year graced the skies.

The moon was located on the opposite side of the Earth as the Sun, meaning its face was fully illuminated.

And it was at its closest point to Earth, meaning is was a "super" moon.

Thursday night wasn't as cloudy as first expected, so Irish people got a good glimpse of the Flower Moon as it resembled a setting sun, looking pale-orange.

Here are some stunning images capturing it above Dublin Bay and Dublin Airport on Thursday night.

This particular moon was known by early Native American tribes as the Flower Moon.

However, you may also hear it being referred to by several other names.

NASA explained: “Going by the seasons, as the second full Moon of spring, the Native American tribes of the northeastern United States called this the Flower Moon, as flowers are abundant this time of year in most of these areas.

“Other names include the Corn Planting Moon or the Milk Moon.”

Unfortunately, the next supermoon isn't expected until April 27 2021.
