Astronomers and amateur skywatchers were delighted this weekend as a dramatic supermoon accompanied this year’s Perseid meteor shower.
The supermoon was up to 14% bigger and 30% brighter than other full moons during the year – two days before the meteor shower reached its peak. Known as perigee, the moon reached the point in its orbit that it is closest to the Earth on Sunday, resulting in stunning scenes in places where the skies were clear.
People from all over the world have been sharing their pictures and videos of the supermoon on various social networks.
