Supermarkets to get Government list of priority shoppers

Supermarkets across the UK are to get a list of priority shoppers this week.

The database will list the elderly and vulnerable who have been ordered to self-isolate for 12 weeks to avoid contracting Covid-19.

The list will be made up of around 1.5million people.

It will allow supermarkets to prioritise those people for home deliveries - and to reach out to ask if they need shopping delivered.

Sainsbury's chief executive Mike Coupe said: "We will receive the government database this week which tells us which people in England the government considers to be most vulnerable.

"Where these people are already registered with us, we will start to write to them next week to offer them a delivery slot. We are also working hard to secure details for vulnerable people living in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland."
