Supermarket worker finds man's body in Elgin as he walked to start shift

A supermarket worker discovered a man's body as he walked to work to start his shift.

Police scrambled to the scene beside Moray Leisure Centre in the heart of Elgin on Monday morning.

The body of a 54-year-old man was spotted under Morriston Bridge on the River Lossie just before 8am.

Five marked police vehicles and a CID car attended the incident.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

The bridge area remains taped off as officers and detectives continue their investigation.

Later a Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We can confirm officers were called to the Haugh Road area of Elgin at around 7.55am following the death of a 54-year-old man.

“There are no suspicious circumstances and, as with all sudden deaths, a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
