The Scottish Government will tomorrow announce an exemption to the strict system of self-isolation for some key staff, the Daily Record can reveal.
Currently close contacts of people who test positive for covid have to self-isolate for ten days.
However, with infection levels high, the number of people having to quarantine is causing problems for the economy due to staff absences.
It is understood the SNP Government will announce an exemption for key staff in critical services.
This will include some employees integral to the functioning of supermarkets such as drivers and warehouse staff. Absences have led to empty shelves in some stores. It will also apply to some NHS and social care staff.
Staff at Loganair airline, such as pilots, will also be included. It is understood the exemption will come into force tomorrow.
The plan comes after retailers warned of disruption due to the number of people self-isolating.
Some health boards have also said they are under pressure amid staff shortages partly due to the number of staff having to self-isolate.
