Shoppers have stripped supermarket shelves of bottled water while freezers have been left without ice or ice cream after days of hot weather. Records were broken on Monday and Monday night with the forecast for Tuesday set to see the first ever temperatures over 40C in the UK.
In a bid to keep cool, shoppers have been stocking up on water, drinks, ice and ice cream with shelves seen bare in Tesco and Lidl.
