It's official, the pace of food prices is falling - well at least that was the case in May.
While that's good news, it doesn't mean that prices aren't still rising and that households aren't still dealing with food bills that are 18% higher than this time last year.
Our weekly comparison of shopping basics has tracked prices since March 2022 and this week, for the first time in a long time, prices have stayed the same.
For the second week in a row, it's Tesco that has fared second cheapest behind Lidl, after overtaking Aldi last week.

And it's Asda that retains the unfortunate title of 'most expensive', one it's had since the end of January, with just one exception.
Our basket is made up of coffee, tea bags, milk, bread, butter, beans, chicken and mince, with the amounts varying from £11.79 at Lidl to £13.15 at Asda, a difference of 12%.
Tesco's bill is £12.11, closely followed by Aldi at £12.13, Sainsbury's at £12.33 and Morrisons at £12.70.
Following this week's confirmation that the pace of food price rises is falling, there have been no changes at all this week. However Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has recently spoken about prices still being 'worryingly high' and 70% of households are said to be 'extremely' or 'very' worried about rising food prices.
Data from Kantar also shows that sales at budget stores Aldi and Lidl have surged by 24.6% and 23.2%, leaving them with larger shares of the grocery market.

Aldi argues that its tea bags are a higher quality than Lidl's 'One Cup', but our comparison has simply used the cheapest 160-box available. Or, as in the case of Tesco and Asda, multiple smaller packs to make up that number.
