Supermarket's latest face mask rules and when stores say they'll call police

The UK's biggest supermarkets have updated shoppers on its face mask rules and what will happen if a customer is not wearing one in stores.

Last month it became mandatory for everyone in England (unless medically exempt) to wear a mask in shops in a bid to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Since it became mandatory, many shoppers have urged supermarkets and other shops to refuse entry to customers not obeying the law.

However, many chains have said it is not up to staff to police this rule but instead the relevant authourities. Supermarkets such as Sainsbury's have also said staff will not be expected to challenge customers as they may have a reason for not wearing one.

According to the Express, while all chains are taking the same approach of not forcing customers to wear a mask, they have said they will call police if they are forced to request assistance.

Do you think shops should do more to enforce the face mask rules? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below

Asda says it is "confident" its customers will continue to show care and consideration for each other by wearing a face covering while Tesco has said masks will be available in stores to buy if shoppers forget theirs.
