Supermarket rules on if you can shop with another person at Aldi, Tesco, Asda and Morrisons

We're now into our tenth week of lockdown and it feels as though things are starting to change very quickly.

While the Government has eased some of the restrictions it is important to remember lockdown is still very much in place and rules should be followed.

Safety measures are still in place across supermarkets with two metre floor markings and perspex screens at checkouts.

Initially when lockdown was announced many retailers including Tesco, Aldi and Sainsbury's enforced a strict one person per household limit when shoppers visited its stores.

But ten weeks on is this still the case? We've taken a look at the most recent guidance from stores and what we have noticed during our own visits to our local supermarkets.

Aldi

Signs outside Aldi stores still advise customers to shop alone where possible. This is to prevent more people than necessary in stores at one time.

Other measures in place include trolley and basket cleaning stations at all stores. Aldi is also asking customers to only buy what they need.

Tesco

Initially Tesco was strict on its one person per household limit however as its store opening times have been extended it looks like this rule is no longer in place.

During our recent visit to Tesco we spotted couples being allowed to shop together.

Asda

To help maintain social distancing measures, Asda is limiting the number of customers in our stores at any one time.

If possible, customers are asked to stick to one adult per trolley.

Sainsbury's

Sainsbury's is only allowed one adult per shop. A message on its website says: "We are asking everyone to only send one adult per household to our shops.

"This helps us keep people a safe distance apart and also helps to reduce queues to get into stores.

"Our store teams will be asking groups with more than one adult to choose one adult to shop and will ask other adults to wait. Children are welcome if they are not able to stay at home."

Morrisons

While shopping at our local Morrisons stores we did spot couples shopping together, although it's recommend everyone still follows the rules of only do this when it is necessary.
