Supermarket opening hours as Lidl Ireland give significant reason for closing time change

Lidl Ireland has revealed the significant reason for a change in their closing hours this weekend.

The company has said that it will shut up its shops early on Sunday as part of a thank you to their staff who have worked tirelessly during the pandemic.

The world renowned supermarket chain has apologised to customers for the one-off change adding that normal opening hours will resume before and after.

A spokesman for Lidl said: "Please note that our stores will be closing at 8pm this Sunday 18th October.

"This is to allow us to hold a national staff recognition event virtually to say thank you to our amazing teams for their continued hard work during these exceptional times."

He added: "We appreciate your understanding and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."

In other recent Lidl news, the company had to issue an urgent recall of a handheld vacuum cleaner over risks it could catch fire.

A safety problem was found in the SilverCrest handheld vacuum which went on sale at the end of September.

Some 2,204 units were sold in Ireland since September 21.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has issued a warning that the vacuums are a fire risk during use or while charging.

The CCPC said: "Lidl Ireland will be displaying point of sale posters in their stores to inform consumers of this recall.

"If you believe that you have purchased this product then you should stop using it immediately and return the product and the associated battery to a Lidl store where you will be offered a full refund.

"The full name of the affected product is SilverCrest Handheld vacuum cleaner SHAZ 22.2 D.

The model number is 339791_1910 and the serial number is 008602.

The model and serial numbers can be identified from the product’s marking plate label.

More information is available on Lidl’s customer service number 1800 20 10 80.
