Supermarket is named UK's cheapest by consumer group Which?

Consumer group Which? has named the cheapest place to shop in the UK.

The group conducted its Cheapest Supermarket price comparison and looked at the cost of a basket of 22 items, including groceries and household essentials, with Aldi coming in cheapest at just £24.03.

The same shopping cost 38% more at the most expensive supermarket for an equivalent basket of items.

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi, said: “We’re committed to providing our customers the best prices possible, and we’re immensely proud that we have taken the top spot.

"Being named the UK’s Cheapest Supermarket in September marks our tenth win and we’re dedicated to continuing to make life a little easier for our customers.”

As well as recently being named the UK’s lowest-priced supermarket in The Grocer 33, Aldi triumphed in the Great Taste Awards 2021, racking up 58 accolades in total, including awards for a number of home-grown products.

Winning products from Aldi’s British suppliers included Specially Selected Scotch Aberdeen Angus Ribeye Steak, Specially Selected Pork Loin Steaks, British Blue Eggs, Specially Selected Ultimate Sausage Rolls, Specially Selected Vintage Cheddar, Aldi Plant Menu Meatless Sausages and Specially Selected Caramelised Red Onion Chutney, which was awarded the top accolade of three prestigious stars.
