Supermarket giant's bank names chief customer officer

Edinburgh-headquarted Tesco Bank has appointment Sigga Sigurdardottir as its new chief customer officer.

Sigurdardottir will join on 4 November from Santander UK , where she led digital and cultural change as chief customer and innovation officer.

Her 18 years has in financial services also includes 14 years at American Express, working in four continents on digital transformation. She started her career in her native Iceland and has driven customer-led transformation in Fortune 500 companies across the world, partnering with the start-up, digital and fintech communities.

She was most recently CEO of newly launched Santander fintech business Asto, providing innovative cash-flow solutions to small businesses.

Tesco Bank chief executive Gerry Mallon said: “I am delighted that Sigga is joining us as chief customer officer. With an excellent reputation for driving digital transformation and a true focus on customer centricity, I know that Sigga’s passion and leadership will bring huge value to our team.”

Tesco Bank was set up as a joint venture between the supermarket giant and Royal Bank of Scotland in 1997. Tesco bought out RBS's share in 2008 and it operates from offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Sigurdardottir said: “Tesco Bank has a truly unique offering for millions of Tesco customers, so I am thrilled to be joining at this exciting time for the business and playing my part in developing our customer offering to deliver not only outstanding value but also exceptional customer experiences."
