Supermarket essentials that will go up in price in 2022 as inflation rises

The cost of living has risen and the average wages aren't keeping up.

Inflation is currently at its highest rate for 30 years, having gone up to 5.4 percent in the 12 months to December.

One of the main reasons is due to the energy crisis and companies have passed on that extra cost to their customers.

The average bill payer is already spotting their energy bill rising and gas is expected to soar 50 percent higher in April with the new price cap.

And those on electric heating won't escape the spike as electric will also follow this trend as gas is used to generate it.

As inflation rises, phone and broadband bills will also grow. This is written into contracts so unfortunately you can't just walk away from it without a fee.

However, the Money Saving Expert founder Martin Lewis has pointed out on his ITV show that some SIM only deals are remaining low. He pointed out that from Lebara, who used Vodafone's network coverage offers SIM's for just £10 with 15gb of data.

Now as we head further into 2022, many households will be feeling the squeeze at the end of the month with these bills coming in.

And that's without including the food shop.

Over the last couple of months, if you felt that the weekly shop is getting a little more expensive, you'd be right.

You can see that inflation is rising by the cost of the daily essentials.

Condiments giant, Hienz has already warned of prices soaring and biscuit lovers are expect to have to shell out more for their favourites as the Independent reports that McVities warned of price hikes for their customers.

Ingredients such as sugar and palm oil are rising to as much as five percent and Pladis, the company who owns the biscuit firm, has said the extra costs may be passed down to customers.

According to the non-government organisation, Food Foundation, prices of common food and drink items increased 4.4 percent in December 2021 compared to January 2020, and by 3.9 percent over the course of 12 months.

The Food Foundation also found that starchy essential products are now 3.5 percent higher than it was at the start of 2021.

The price of pasta, the cupboard staple. has shot up by a whopping 26.3 percent, and the organisation say that this is likely due to the level of demand and poor harvest.

Overall the cost of meat has gone up by 0.3 percent so far, with lamb up by 14 percent.

Looking at fruit and veg, they appear to have had a slower rate of inflation but by the end of 2021, they are now 2.3 percent higher than they were pre-pandemic in January 2020.

And it's more bad news for the wallets because there is no sign of these prices dropping.

While supermarkets are reassuring customers they will keep costs as low as possible, last year, the Tesco Chairman John Allan warned that the food prices could rise 5 percent.

And most recently, Glasgow Live reported how household essentials such as toilet roll has already seen a price increase due to the increasing energy costs.

The Bank of England estimates that inflation could rise over seven percent in April at the same time our energy bills are set to sky rocket.
