A new website that lets you compare supermarket prices against discount chains like B&M and Home Bargains has been launched to help shoppers save cash.
Trolley.co.uk claims to have 130,000 products and 7,000 brands listed on its website, with The Mirror counting at least 16 retailers so far.
As well as both branded and own-brand products from the Big Four supermarkets - Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s - it also has items listed from Aldi, B&M and Home Bargains.
Other brands that are included are Ocado, The Co-op, Superdrug, Wilko and Boots.
The search function is free to use and involves simply typing in the product you want to purchase.
For example, if you were to search for “Walkers crisps” the website will bring up a whole choice of different flavours and pack sizes - pick the one you want, and you’ll then see the prices available.
If you click on the pack of 12 “classic variety” bag of Walkers, the website shows the cheapest price is £1 at B&M - with the next best price being £2.50 from Tesco, Asda and Iceland.
At the Co-op, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons, you’ll pay £3 for the same size pack of crisps.
As well as listing the prices, the website also has links so you can purchase the cheapest product direct from the retailer’s website.
Alongside branded items, The Mirror found Trolley.co.uk also lists plenty of supermarket own-branded goods.
If you type in “pineapple”, you’re given all the different prices across the supermarkets - with the website showing that Tesco is cheapest for this fruit at 75p, compared to £1 from Iceland and Morrisons.
However, we did notice how Aldi products were a bit trickier to track and often didn’t come up when you searched the basic term.
Instead, you need to know the name of Aldi brands to find their prices - such as “Nature’s Pick” for its fruit and vegetables or “Bramwells” for its tinned goods.
Aldi is, however, still listed on some branded items.
For example, when we searched for “Marmite” you can see that Aldi is joint-cheapest at £2.49 for a 250g tub, alongside Asda, B&M and Tesco.
As well as looking for the cheapest supermarkets, you can also sign up for email alerts that'll tell you when a particular item drops in price.
Trolley.co.uk has a price chart too, showing how items have fluctuated in cost over time so you know if you're getting a good deal.
Its search feature works in a similar way to existing food comparison websites, such as this one from LatestDeals.co.uk, although it appears to have a wider range of shops.
The LatestDeals.co.uk app only lists Asda, Aldi, Tesco, Sainsbury's, Iceland, Waitrose, Ocado and Morrisons.
Whereas the Trolley.co.uk website has all the above, as well as B&M, Home Bargains, The Co-op and others.
But one supermarket that is noticeably missing is Lidl, which was named best value grocer in May by Which? after its price comparison found a trolley of items cost almost £10 less than its priciest rival.
Supermarket comparison websites are great at giving you an idea of what the major grocers are charging.
However, as it isn't always clear if absolutely every item you need is listed, it's still always worth shopping around in person to get the absolute best deals.
