Supermarket chain to open new store in West Lothain and create 35 jobs

Aldi has announced plans to create 35 new jobs at a new store in West Lothian.

The discount food retailer unveiled plans for a new store at Greendykes Industrial Estate in Broxburn.

The development at Broxburn will create up to 35 local jobs within the store, together with new jobs during construction and within the Aldi supply chain.

The proposal will deliver a 1315 sqm food store with 107 parking bays, including 89 standard, nine parent and child, seven disabled and two for electric vehicles.

To coincide with this announcement, Aldi will be hosting an online consultation later this month seeking the views and feedback from the local community.

The German supermarket chain is seeking to develop a modern food store which will serve Broxburn along with the surrounding area.

Local residents and all those with an interest in the proposals are encouraged to visit the online consultation to find out more about what is proposed, and importantly provide Aldi with valuable feedback.

Following the online consultation, it is anticipated that a planning application for a new store will be lodged with West Lothian Council later in the summer, with the new store due to open in spring 2022.

Philip Johnston, property director for Scotland, Aldi, said: “This marks an exciting time as we bring forward plans for a sixth store in West Lothian. West Lothian is a key area of growth for Aldi and I am delighted to be able to present our plans to the local community and bring our award-winning offer to Broxburn and the surrounding villages.”

“It is clear that there is an under provision of a discount supermarket offering in Broxburn and the surrounding area and we are confident that the addition of a new Aldi store will help to address this. The store will help rejuvenate a former industrial site and create a number of full and part-time job opportunities within the town.

“While I am disappointed that I cannot personally welcome everyone to the public exhibition given the current circumstances, I welcome the opportunity to receive feedback from local residents and other interested parties through our online consultation.”

The project website will be available to view from tomorrow (June 5) at https://aldiconsultation.co.uk/broxburn/
