The mystery of the superhuman celebrations in the Republic of Ireland dressing room, following their Euro 2016 play-off victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina, has been solved.

Amid the scrum of Ireland players rejoicing after their 2-0 win at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium there was a caped crusader celebrating more enthusiastically than most.

According to Uefa.com, rather than being there to lend his incredible strength to a heroic conflict, Superman was merely called upon to lay out the kit.

“I’m 60 and I’m going to France,” he cried, before being exposed as the Irish kit manager, Dick Redmond.
