The new Supergirl trailer is for the animal lovers. Or anyone with a heart really. But if you are also someone who worries about your fur friend, Kara’s quest will be one you highly relate to. At least I did!
Kara (Milly Alcock) is young and carefree and that means she loves to go out, have fun, and then return to her apartment where she just has her dog, Krypto, at her side. But what happens when someone comes for the only family Kara knows? Written by Ana Nogueira and Craig Gillespie (who also serves as director), the film is setting up a fun expansion into the Super Fam.
The new trailer for Supergirl, set to release on June 26, 2026, is all about Kara’s relationship with her beloved dog. “Home is wherever you are, buddy,” she says to Krypto and it is relatable. Especially if you, yourself, are a pet owner. Her cousin Clark (David Corenswet) even attempts to lure her back to earth, saying she needs to “find her people” but Kara responds honestly, saying she has “no people.” And it beautifully showcases how different Clark and Kara are from each other.
Kara remembers Krypton, their family. Clark does not. He has always known life as Clark Kent, not Kal-El. So the cousins don’t exactly see eye to eye on what finding their “people” can mean. But Kara does find friends in this second trailer. Like Jason Momoa’s Lobo as her unlikely counterpart in her quest to find an antidote to save her dog.
I get it, I’d do anything for my pet

Krypto is shot with a virus of some kind and the only way to save him is for Kara to find the antidote that those who hurt him have. And in true pet mom fashion, she goes out of her way to do so. And look, if I had superpowers and you hurt my pet, I’d also use them to make sure you regret it! But it also really shows the kind of person that Kara is.
Clark would protect a squirrel. We know he turned back time to save Lois Lane and he’d do anything for mankind. But Kara seems to operate on a more personal level. And when you come for her family (in this case, Krypto), there will be a price to pay. But more than that: It is just relatable.
I am willing to go without food if it means my pet is taken care of. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make sure my cat is okay. Kara is very clearly the same. She won’t necessarily take care of herself but she’ll make sure Krypto is protected.
What is exciting about Supergirl?

Supergirl is an important character in Clark’s world. She is sent to protect him on earth but even having a fellow Kryptonian isn’t really enough when said cousin doesn’t remember your home world. So it is kind of amazing to see Kara a bit more of a mess and less well adjusted because she has that loneliness looming over her.
Alcock’s take on Kara is one I have been excited for since it was announced. The minute she crashed into the Fortress of Solitude at the end of Superman, I was sold. And now we are just months away from her first solo outting and I cannot wait!
Supergirl flies into theaters on June 26.
