'Supergirl' premiere breaks records, boosts CW's Monday ratings

"Supergirl" is off to a solid start at its new home at the CW.

Monday's "Supergirl" premiere marked the debut of Kara's Kryptonian cousin Clark Kent _ or Kal-El as she first knew him _ as well as the show's inaugural episode at its new network. With 3.02 million viewers, the Season 2 premiere was the CW's most watched show in the Monday 8 to 9 p.m. slot since a 2008 "Gossip Girl" episode.

While this is less total viewers than the comic-book inspired series pulled while at CBS during its first season, it's still strong numbers for the CW. Last week's "The Flash" premiere pulled in 3.17 million viewers, while 1.89 million viewers tuned into the "Arrow" premiere.

The "Supergirl" premiere also averaged a 1.1 rating for adults 18-49 and a 0.9 rating for adults 18-34, which is the highest in its time period for the CW in six years and five years, respectively.

"Supergirl" also was the CW's highest rated show in its time period for male viewers 18-49.

Compared to the same week last year, which marked the "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" premiere, "Supergirl" more than tripled the network's performance in total viewers among all key demographics.
