SuperCupNI 2019: Co Fermanagh storm back to rescue point against Valencia

Conor Courtney admitted he was in dreamland after his two late goals earned Co Fermanagh a dramatic draw against Valencia in the SuperCupNI.

Courtney scored twice in the space of two minutes to rescue a point in Monday's Premier section clash at the Coleraine Showgrounds.

Valencia looked set for maximum reward when Borislav Ivailov's second-half double sent the Spanish side into a commanding 2-0 lead.

But with time running out, Courtney breathed life into the tie with a clinical goal before holding his nerve from the penalty spot to secure a 2-2 draw.

"It is an amazing feeling. There's nothing like it," Courtney beamed.

"To pick up a point for Co Fermanagh against a side like Valencia is brilliant. It's the stuff of dreams.

"They are probably one of the favourites for the tournament, so it's madness.

"We will take so much confidence from this win and we can't wait for tomorrow now. We have that fighting spirit, and we have had it since the start. It is an amazing team to be a part of, I can't even put it into words."

There was more drama in injury time when Valencia scored what they thought was a late winner, but Julio Insa's effort was ruled out for an infringement during the build-up.

"We thought we had lost it at the end there but the Valencia goal was ruled out. It was a relief," Courtney added.

"There was some confusion over why it was disallowed, but we don't care.

Fermanagh boss Scott Robinson hailed the character of his side following their late heroics at the Showgrounds.

"It was nothing more than we deserved," he said.

"We had a game plan and we stuck to it all through the game. Valencia have some super players that know how to pass the ball, but our boys held their own.

"I thought we were unfortunate to fall 2-0 behind but the way the boys responded to it was incredible.

"Rhys Burns and Conor Courtney were incredible. Conor showed nerves of steel taking that penalty. I was delighted for him because he's a super kid."

Meanwhile, Co Antrim earned a 2-1 win over Deportes Iquique with Carson Elliott and Peter McKiernan on target, while Co Down drew 0-0 with Right To Dream.

Co Tyrone fought out a battling 2-2 draw with French side Vendee while Co Londonderry were on the receiving end of a 5-0 defeat to Newcastle United.
