Supercomputer makes Man City Champions League prediction - and Liverpool FC fans will hate it

The Champions League quarter-finals take centre stage this evening as Manchester City meet Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool host FC Porto.

It’s Manchester United’s turn on Wednesday as they welcome Barcelona to Old Trafford, while Ajax also take on Juventus.

But who is the favourite to land the Champions League trophy in Madrid? The Star Spreads Champions League supercomputer rates Man City far superior to Liverpool in their quest for European glory – despite the Reds facing the tournament outsiders and 1% chancers, FC Porto.

Boffins from the spread betting firm have predicted the final outcome in the Champions League based on a unique statistical model. Their series of complex calculations and variables include home and away form, records against various European opponents and records in knockout football.

City have a 28% chance of winning the competition, according to Star Spreads, with Barcelona (22.5%) and Juventus (21%) listed as second and third favourites respectively.

Liverpool are way back in fourth with a predicted (18%) chance of winning the Champions League before there is a massive drop-off to the other four sides.

Manchester United lead that pack at 4%, with Tottenham Hotspur (3.5%), Ajax (2%) and Porto (1%) close behind.

A Star Spreads spokesman said: “This could well be an historic win for Manchester City as this will be the last trophy needed to win an unprecedented quadruple. Despite being favourites, they still face tough tests in the likes of Tottenham, Juventus and Barcelona.
