Supercomputer calculates Leeds United’s Premier League fate following Crystal Palace win

FiveThirtyEight predicts that Leeds will avoid relegation from the Premier League this season following their 1-0 triumph over Crystal Palace.

A dramatic 94th-minute winner from the penalty spot earned Leeds a much-needed victory at Elland Road to put daylight between themselves and the bottom three.

Raphinha’s strike ended a winless three-game run and moved Leeds five points clear of the drop zone.

Now, FiveThirtyEight - a website that studies statistical data to calculate how the Premier League table will finish - expects Leeds to claim 16th position in May and to be playing top-flight football next season.

The supercomputer estimates Leeds to finish on 44 points - a tally that has never seen a side relegated from the Premier League.

Talk of a possible surge towards the top half is likely a tad premature, however, as the supercomputer only gives Marcelo Bielsa’s side a slim 5% chance of finishing 10th.

Better still, the table gives Leeds just a 14% chance of dropping back down to the Championship with Burnley (34%), Watford (36%), Norwich (72%) and Newcastle (77%) all expected to finish lower.

Elsewhere in the league, Liverpool and Man City are thought to be neck and neck in the title race, with both sides having a 35% likelihood of winning the Premier League.

Surprise package West Ham are favoured to maintain their consistent run and qualify for the top four (22%) ahead of Arsenal (21%) and Man Utd (18%).
