Supercars manufacturer McLaren in pole position for Brexit

McLaren's 2018 model looks like it's going to be P14

Supercars manufacturer McLaren is gearing up to Brexit-proof its business, filings reveal.

McLaren’s Surrey headquarters is home to its F1 team and the production plant for its supercars including the £750,000 Senna.

Both divisions trade heavily with Europe and their success depends on swift and smooth cross-border transport.

Company filings reveal McLaren is in the process of being accredited as an Authorised Economic Operator (AEO), enabling it to move through customs controls quickly.

This is crucial when moving parts from its factories to tracks across Europe during race weekends. Its drivers this year are Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris.

Around half its supplies are sourced from the EU.

It is also holding cash reserves to stockpile parts if necessary but admits “the current uncertainty regarding the way the UK leaves the EU makes it very difficult to plan”.
