Supercars and women in bikinis cause mayhem during city centre 'rally'

Large groups of "boy racers" in supercars accompanied by women in bikinis have caused fury after being spotted in Manchester.

A convoy of bling motors, including an iridescent Audi and bright orange BMW, were spotted revving at traffic lights this weekend.

It provoked a backlash on social media, with some branding the group "pathetic", the Manchester Evening News reports.

A number of city centre residents and visitors were left perturbed by the gathering.

One posted a picture of the group on Facebook, writing: "Anyone know what’s going on here....?

Images of the convoy were shared on social media (MEN/WS)

"1 girl in an evening dress, lots in bikinis, photographers & 6 (one hidden) loud cars..."

The cars appeared to be part of an organised rally group.

The Manchester Evening News has attempted to contact the group for comment.

Joan Davies, Labour councillor for the Deansgate ward, was among those who saw the convoy 'posing'.

She said: "It's really annoying residents.

Police have previously responded to reports of cars causing an annoyance in the same area (MEN/WS)

"It's the noise, it's the behaviour, it's the revving at traffic lights, it's the pollution and it's the potential danger of people not concentrating on the road.

"Residents have been coming together and gathering information to pass to the police to take appropriate action."

Supercars have been a frequent feature in the city centre all summer.

In July, police tweeted about a number of Lamborghinis that were seized from drivers.

City centre Inspector Jon Middleton tweeted at the time: "I don't know why people want to spend a fortune to hire a car & sit in a traffic jam on Deansgate.

"They need to understand people live in the city & don't appreciate the noise & anti-social behaviour."

Councillor Pat Karney also condemned the 'boy racers' revving up and down Deansgate calling it 'pathetic masculinity.'

Police have carried out a number of operations to clamp down on anti-social behaviour in response to the growing trend.

Last month, the police specials team were out at night issuing Section 59 warnings to drivers that cause 'harassment, alarm or distress'.
