Supercar drivers treat hospice children to a roaring day out

Children at the Rachel House hospice in Kinross were treated to a roaring day out by a group of 20 supercar drivers.

A police-led convoy set off from the hospice on Saturday, with an Edinburgh family among those enjoying the fun.

Around £6m worth of cars were brought to the event, including the £1m McLaren Senna.

Nine-year-old Ruby Holden uses the hospice's services and her brother Riley, eight, had a blast as he sat behind the wheel.

Mum Pauline Campbell said: "Riley couldn't wait to see the supercars and get to ride in them. It was such a cool experience. He’s the best brother that Ruby could possibly have, and they have an incredible bond.

"But sometimes it's tough as he needs to wait while I care for Ruby. He's always really understanding.

"So I find it really moving to think that someone has taken the time to create such a special event that my son will always remember."

The event was organised by Children's Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS)  and Kenneth McLeod of Grand Prix Adventures.

Mr McLeod said: "It has been lovely to bring this mini supercar show to the children, siblings, parents and staff of Rachel House.

We took the kids out in convoy under police escort and they were ecstatic as the drivers revved their engines for them and whisked them around local roads.

"The owners and drivers are friends who have come from all four corners of Scotland to support the day.

“We ran a similar event to this at Rachel House many years ago in a selection of race cars, back when I was an amateur racer. We took a referred child as well as the siblings and it was a great day I’ve always remembered fondly.

"We thought it would be nice to do it again but this time with more exotic cars."
