Superboats survive crash to draw big crowds at Lake Macquarie

LAPS ON THE LAKE: Jet ski racing at Eleebana added to the attraction as Lake Macquarie hosted Superboats, vintage car displays and a food and wine festival.

LAKE Macquarie hosted high-octane racing across the weekend, with organisers estimating a 30,000-strong crowd flocked to watch the Superboats over two days.

Saturday's only race was abandoned after the Team 88 Offshore vessel flipped after two laps. No-one was injured and the vessel was recovered.

Team Dynamic Racing took honours in the Supercat Extreme class on Sunday while TCR Offshore claimed the Supercat Outboard class.

"All the teams love coming here," Offshore Superboat Club president Conn Saloumidis said. "The conditions at Lake Macquarie are perfect and the crowd gets behind the event so well - it's awesome."

Events also included jet ski racing from Eleebana.

"Weekends like this show what makes Lake Macquarie so special, and such a spectacular place for major events," Lake Macquarie mayor Kay Fraser said.

"Onshore activities from Eleebana to Marmong Point, help spread the benefits."
