Superb St Mirren's historic Celtic Park win lifts Buddies into top half of the table

St Mirren produced their second spectacular performance of the week to seal a historic win at Celtic Park.

The Buddies hadn't picked up all three points in Glasgow's East End since Paul Lambert inspired the Paisley side to a 3-0 victory back in April 1990.

Heading into today's clash on the back of an emphatic 5-1 midweek away win over Dundee United, the Saints set up to attack the Hoops and took an early lead thanks to Kristian Dennis' fine early strike.

That was his second in as many games and was no less than St Mirren deserved for their pressing, adventurous start to the match.

Neil Lennon's side hit back in the first half when Odsonne Edouard put the finishing touch on an excellent break by Callum McGregor.

But the Saints refused to stop attacking and retook the lead when Ilkay Durmus plucked the ball off Shane Duffy's foot before calmly volleying past Scott Bain.

While Celtic huffed and puffed as they tried to find another leveller in the second half, the Buddies' defence would not be breached with Joe Shaughnessy and Conor McCarthy putting in excellent blocks to keep the hosts out.

The impressive win lifts St Mirren above Dundee United into sixth spot, with the Paisley side still with numerous games in hand on their nearest rivals to a top half spot.
