'Superb' Man City better than Chelsea in 'every department', says Alan Shearer

Alan Shearer says Man City's performance in their win over Chelsea was the best he's seen them play in a long time.

City were dominant against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge as they nullified the home side to no shots on target and kept yet another clean sheet to ensure they still have the best defensive record in the division.

While they created plenty of chances in the game, Shearer thought it was the defensive side of their game that stood out the most as they limited the Blues to just 41 per cent possession and had triple the amount of goal attempts throughout the game.

Speaking on BBC's Match of the Day as a pundit, Shearer praised the pressing that City employed in the game and said Chelsea just couldn't cope with them.

“That was as good a City performance as I’ve seen for a long time. They were superb in every department. Defensively, midfield and attack, and particularly in their press.

"Chelsea went in with a three this time, unlike the Champions League final, but their pressing from the very first minute to the last minute Man City, not in ones and twos but in fours and fives. They did it superbly well, there was just no way out for Chelsea. They couldn’t pass it out because of the energy that Man City had in there and how they did it.

"In the second half that didn’t change at all, not giving them a moments' peace at all. They forced Chelsea to go long and when they did, that was no problem either.

"Rodri, who I thought was immense in giving them the protection when he needed to be. Defensively, they were superb also. Dias and Laporte were excellent."

City have conceded just one goal in the Premier League this season despite having defensive injuries and will look to continue that record against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday in the Champions League.
