Super Whippy Ice Cream is now offering a door delivery service in Leeds

Ice cream vans have found a new way to continue to serve customers during the lockdown.

Their services were restricted but since Government restrictions were loosened, they found a safer way to ahead with business.

Supper Whippy Ice Cream is among those who have adapted to the current situation.

They are offering customers a door delivery service which allows them to order and pay online to minimise contact.

Upon delivery, the driver who has full personal protective equipment (PPE) such as a gown, a face mask and gloves, calls the customer when they are outside so they can place a tray on outside their doorstep where the ice cream is left.

A spokesperson for the company said it has put necessary measures in place to maintain social distance and keep staff safe.

They said: “It’s hard work. A lot of people aren’t coming outside of their houses because they’re scared so instead, we’re offering contactless deliveries.

“When we deliver we don’t make contact with people.

“What we do is ask contactless we call beforehand and ask they leave a tray outside. We got full PPE and no one is allowed to come to the van.

“It was very difficult when we went into lockdown because some councils were allowing ice cream vans to operate and other’s weren’t.”
