Bernie Sanders has seized Super Tuesday’s biggest prize with a victory in California as resurgent Joe Biden scored wins on a big night for the Democratic presidential race.
The two Democrats are battling for delegates as 14 states and one US territory held a series of high-stakes elections that mark the most significant day of voting in the nomination fight.
Former Vice President Mr Biden took Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, Oklahoma and the battleground states of North Carolina and Virginia in a strong showing early on.
But his is nearest rival Mr Sanders picked up California, and also countered with wins in his home state of Vermont and in Colorado as the race shifted west.
