Super Sunday: Irvine Meadow boss hails 'unbelievable' side as they beat Beith with 10-men

Brian McGinty hailed his "unbelievable" Irvine Meadow side after they beat Beith with 10-men on Junior football's Super Sunday.

Medda captain Ben Carson fired his side into the lead in 32 minutes but Jordan McGuire's controversial red card late in the first half appeared to hand back the initiative to Beith.

When Paul Frize's superb 25 yard strike levelled the scores in 75 minutes it looked like the hosts might press home their advantage.

But super sub Adam Forsyth netted with virtually his first touch soon after to seal an incredible 2-1 win and three points for Meadow who had arrived at Bellsdale Park down to the bare bones squad-wise.

They were without six first-team regulars, forcing manager Brian McGinty to name himself and assistant manager Stevie Aitchison as substitutes.

McGinty said: "I can't speak highly enough of the players.

"We had a really poor performance against Kilwinning last week.

"We turn up today with six players missing and four of our most experienced players out.

"Me and Aitchy on the bench wasn't ideal and Reece Pearson got out of his sick bed to come to the game knowing he'd be on the bench.

"It's unbelievable what the players put into that performance and they deserved to win.

"We're not a team with star players,  we're a team that has to work hard for everything."

"These players would run through brick walls for each other."

McGinty revealed he is considering appealing McGuire's sending off.

The midfielder was shown a straight red card for violent conduct after referee Chris Gentles ruled he'd deliberately aimed a throw-in at Beith defender Ryan Docherty's head.

"We'll need to have a look at the video, said McGinty.

"I didn't think it was a sending off. If it's a throw in and the boy has jumped up in front of him I don't know what Jordan is supposed to do.

"We'll appeal that if we can."
