'Super showing! - Harvey Elliott stars on Blackburn Rovers debut after loan move from Liverpool

Harvey Elliott made a big impression as the Liverpool prospect took to field for his first Blackburn Rovers game.

Elliott, 17, sealed a season-long switch to Ewood Park on transfer deadline day.

And last night he played the full 90 as Rovers lost 3-1 away to Watford in the Championship.

Despite tasting defeat on his debut, Elliott caught the eye of many observers.

Speaking after the final whistle, Rovers boss Tony Mowbray told of his excitement over Elliott.

He said: “I think the combination of Elliott and [Rovers striker Adam] Armstrong is going to be something we can really look forward to...as he steps in on his left foot and Armstrong runs as he sees the space.

“It seems to me that he has fantastic qualities to go and integrate in areas.

"And backlines are going to have to be on their metal to stop that.”

In the Lancashire Live player ratings for the match, the youngster was given 7/10 for his display.

That was the joint-highest score dished out for any Rovers man.

Explaining the rating for Elliott, Jaquob Crooke said: "His quality was there for all to see and for a 17-year-old making his Championship debut, he more than held his own."

The Whoscored judges concurred, giving Elliott a rating of 7.11 - the third highest of any Rovers player.

And plenty of fans took to social media to have their say on Elliott's performance.

@AnalyticsRovers said on Twitter: "Harvey Elliott my man of the match tonight for #Rovers.

"Barely put a foot wrong and looked classy at such a young age. Has to start at the weekend".

@HUBBY109 added: "Harvey Elliott is going all the way to the top, outstanding footballer and he’s only 17".

And there was only one criticism from @callumprescott0: "Harvey Elliott, well then...

"His barnet needs work, but that's about the only negative. Direct, comfortable in possession, and some excellent crosses into the box.

"That said, I was most impressed with his defensive work. Tracked back and got stuck in, super showing!"

Rovers are next in action away to Coventry City at the weekend, before a midweek clash at home to Reading.
