Although I am watching out for the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, I feel as if I am gradually returning to my everyday life. On Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, the Super Sentai Spirits concert was held at Zepp Tokyo with a limited number of audience members.
The concert, which featured performances of songs from the Super Sentai Series tokusatsu superhero dramas, was livestreamed as well. The number of singers also had to be limited to avoid overcrowding on stage. Still, the concert went ahead -- and that fact alone made me feel very touched.
The audience danced to the songs in their seats. And huge applause erupted when one of the singers suddenly held out a mic to the crowd. My concern that the concert would become dispirited because the audience was not allowed to shout cheers during the performances turned out to be unfounded.
Even though the audience could not call out, from where I watched via livestream, I could hear their inner voices expressing their overwhelming emotions, which warmed my heart and made me feel energized.
I was also moved by the thoughtful words of Yohei Onishi, who sang several songs, including the theme song from "Mashin Sentai Kiramager."
He said: "Since you guys can't let out your voices, I will sing out loud and strong. Our songs are here for you when you're feeling down."
I think his determination and consideration will spread all over the world.
NoB, the singer who performed at the very end on the first day, said, "Because the end of the fight against the coronavirus is not in sight, we Sentai singers must bring a good spirit to all of you."
Even if we can't voice our support for them and sing along with everyone in a packed venue, let's sing in our minds and hearts until the sun comes out gain. Let's fight on with the energy that the singers have given us. I must say, my evenings filled with songs from the Super Sentai Series TV dramas have given me such positive vibes.
