Super rare albino squirrel spotted running around Lanarkshire gardens

A super rare albino squirrel has been spotted running around gardens in Lanarkshire.

The white squirrel has appeared in and around Uddingston's Old Mill Road since September, Lanarkshire Live reports.

The chance of spotting an albino squirrel is just one in 100,000 with estimates suggesting there are only 50 of them living in the UK.

Caira Weinberg, who spotted the rare animal, told Lanarkshire Live: "My neighbour Gerry called my son, Patrick and I over as we walked home from school one day.

"We were stopped in our tracks by this beautiful white squirrel. It ran quickly across the road and up one of his trees.

"It was a joy to see! Patrick then researched albino squirrels and we were astounded to realise they were so rare.

"A week later I saw it again in the trees at Croftbank Nursing Home. I hope it’s entertaining the residents with its frolics.

"Imagine my surprise when I opened my blind last week to see it playing in our garden. I had been worried having not seen it for a few weeks that it had succumbed to a predator. We feel so lucky to resident albino squirrel living right on our street in Uddingston."
