MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced the Super Over rule and 'in-field penalties' for maintaining a slow over-rate in domestic One-Dayers from the 2023-24 season.
Till the last season, the Super Over rule, which is used in international ODIs (England won the 2019 World Cup final against New Zealand in the Super Over) in case of a tie, was used in domestic T20s as were the in-field penalties for punishing slow over-rates.
"As for the in-field penalties for slow over-rates, if a team, for example is able to bowl only 47 of its overs by 1230 pm in a one-dayer, it can deploy only four fielders (and not five) outside the fielding restriction area (30-yard circle) for the rest of the three overs," a source told TOI.
The new rules will come into effect from the Vijay Hazare Trophy 50-over championship from November 23 to December 15.
