Super League board elects interim chairman following Robert Elstone's departure

The Super League have elected Huddersfield Giants chairman Ken Davy as their interim chairman.

Davy has been voted in by the board of the Super League following the departure of Robert Elstone, who opted to step down earlier this month after less than three years in the role.

The longest serving Super League chairman has temporarily stepped down from his position with the Giants and will take over proceedings on an interim basis until a permanent candidate is found to take the competition forward.

Davy has been with the Giants since January 1996, but Keith Hallawell will take his spot at the John Smith’s Stadium while he is with the Super League.

The businessman, entrepreneur and philanthropist has a background in finance and is highly respected in the game and has high hopes of bolstering the status of the Super League and the sport during his spell in charge, with a new television deal thought to be high on the agenda.

“I am looking forward to working with the Super League executive, the Betfred Super League clubs, and the RFL, to create a lasting framework which will enable us to unleash the energy and excitement of Betfred Super League, as well as the whole sport of Rugby League,” he said in a press release.

“We have tremendous relationships with our broadcast partners, Sky Sports and BBC Sport, our commercial partners, including title partner Betfred, and of course all the fans across the game.

“This autumn this country has the exciting prospect of hosting the Rugby League World Cup, which creates a great opportunity to share Rugby League with a wider audience.

“By working together, I believe we can create opportunities to grow the game and our support for the benefit of all concerned.”
