Super Junior’s Yesung Scores His First Solo No. 1 Album In Korea

South Korean musician YESUNG has enjoyed a career that’s lasted longer than most artists could dream of, and against all odds, things only seem to be getting better for the superstar as time goes on.

This week, YESUNG lands his first-ever solo No. 1 on the Gaon Albums chart with his latest EP Beautiful Night, which opens in first place. 

The Gaon Albums chart ranks the bestselling full-lengths, EPs and single albums in South Korea every week, looking at how many copies were shipped to stores.

Beautiful Night is YESUNG’s fifth solo release, and now all five of his own projects have found their way into the top 10 on the Gaon Albums chart. His sole full-length on his own, 2019’s Story, went to No. 7, while fellow EPs Here I Am, Spring Falling and Pink Magic rose as high as Nos. 2, 2 and 4, respectively.

Of course, while YESUNG’s solo career has been fruitful and enviable by many acts, it's his work with more than one group that has sent him into the stratosphere. Aside from his mandatory military service, the musician has now been a part of Super Junior since it was first launched in 2006, and in that time the band has churned out an incredible amount of content. With the band, YESUNG has now entered the top 10 on the Gaon Albums chart with what appears to be 14 different projects. Of that sum, eight have gone all the way to No. 1, including most recently when their comeback set The Renaissance hit the top spot this past March.

As if that wasn’t enough music to flesh out a full career, YESUNG has also been included in two sub-units of Super Junior and one other group that was also connected to the larger act. As part of Super Junior-H he released the sole EP Cooking? Cooking! In 2008. With Super Junior-K.R.Y. (which featured three members from the main band), he and his fellow musicians reached No. 1 on the Gaon Albums chart just last year with their first EP When We Were Us.

As one of the members of SM the Ballad, a ballad project put together by the record label SM Entertainment AMC , he racked up two more No. 1 titles, as both EPs the act has released, Miss You and Breath, conquered the tally.

Looking at his entire musical output, YESUNG has now hit No. 1 on the albums chart with 12 different titles.

So far, Beautiful Night’s title track, which serves as the lead single, hasn’t made much of a commercial impact in South Korea, as it misses the Gaon Digital chart entirely and only makes it to No. 26 on the Gaon Download list.
