Super Cup will be played with fans in attendance, Uefa confirm

The Uefa Super Cup will be played with fans in the stadium, European football’s governing body has confirmed.

Champions League winners Bayern Munich will play Europa League champions Sevilla in Budapest on 24 September.

And the Uefa Executive Committee have agreed that a reduced number of spectators – up to 30 % of the capacity of the stadium – will be allowed to attend.

That should allow as many as 20,000 fans inside the stadium at the Puskás Aréna.

Uefa president Aleksander Čeferin confirmed any decision is still subject to change and will be made in accordance with public health protocols in Hungary.

“While it has been important to show that football can carry on in difficult times, without fans, the game has lost something of its character.

“We hope to use the Uefa Super Cup in Budapest as a pilot that will begin to see the return of fans to our matches.

“We are working closely with the Hungarian Federation and its government to implement measures to ensure the health of all those attending and participating in the game.

“We will not take risks with people’s safety.”
