Super Bowl winner Russell Wilson confirms next career move after announcing NFL retirement

  • Russell Wilson, the ten-time Pro Bowl quarterback, has announced his retirement from the NFL after a 14-season career, confirming his transition to a role as an analyst with CBS Sports.
  • The announcement was made via a social media video on Wednesday, following reports two days prior that he was finalising a deal to join CBS’s Sunday NFL pre-game show, The NFL Today .
  • Wilson's distinguished career began in 2012 with the Seattle Seahawks, where he spent a decade and famously led them to their first Super Bowl victory in 2013, before playing for the Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh, and the New York Giants.
  • Throughout his career, Wilson amassed significant statistics, including 46,966 passing yards and 353 touchdown passes, and holds several NFL records, such as being the shortest starting quarterback to win a Super Bowl.
  • In his new capacity, Wilson will replace Matt Ryan on The NFL Today and expressed gratitude to his former Seahawks coach Pete Carroll for believing in him, despite being told he was too small for the NFL.
