Super Bowl LIV checks in as 10th-most watched game

Super Bowl LIV had plenty of drama. However, it did not deliver TV ratings to match the Kansas City Chiefs’ thrilling fourth-quarter comeback.

The game was broadcast on FOX and checked in with with a 41.6 household rating and 99.8M viewers, a slight increase over the audience CBS drew when the New England Patriots downed the Los Angeles Rams a year earlier. The Super Bowl added 1.3 million total viewers to the 10-year low set in 2019.

The Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory over the 49ers was watched by an average of 102 million viewers, according to FOX. This number, which combines all platforms, is the 10th-highest in history. The last time FOX hosted the Super Bowl, in 2017 (Patriots vs. Falcons), the audience totaled 113.7 million, of which 103.4 million watched via traditional means.

One fascinating aspect to the TV numbers came from FOX Deportes. Boosted by the booming halftime show that featured Jennifer Lopez and Shakira, the ratings soared.
