Sales of two Japanese whiskies -- Hakushu 12 Years and Hibiki 17 Years -- will be suspended due to a shortage of unblended whiskies, Suntory Holdings Ltd. said on Tuesday.
Sales of Hakushu 12 Years are expected to be halted from around June, and sales of Hibiki 17 Years from around September.
The shortage was triggered by the popularity of whisky soda drinks. Suntory is set to continue making capital investments in preparation for increased production of unblended whiskies. However, ensuring a constant supply anytime soon appears to be difficult.
"We will need a reasonable time to resume sales again," a person in charge of public relations said.
