Sunshine on the way after a wet start to the day but temperatures are set to drop

The good news is the rain will clear up in the North East after a wet and miserable start to Saturday.

But the bad news is that strong winds and low temperatures will leave us feeling rather chilly this weekend.

Temperatures will drop even further through the night, meaning we could see some early morning frost too.

A meteorologist for the Met Office told us what to expect:

Saturday

"We've seen some quite heavy rain at the start of the day but the good news is it will improve and clear south-eastwards and brighten up this afternoon.

"There'll be increasing sunshine through the rest of the day but it will be cold at around 9°C at best. There'll also be gusts of around 25mph but it will be mainly dry and sunny.

"Through the evening and overnight it should be mainly dry but winds will pick up and be around 35mph and it will be relatively cold at around 4°C in the city."

Sunday

"It should be another dry day with lots of sunshine.

"It will be windy at first but that will ease off by the afternoon. Temperatures will be around 10 °C so still quite chillly but in the sunshine, it shouldn't be too bad."

Monday

"It's looking like another generally dry day with some isolated showers, mainly on the coast. There'll be sunshine in the afternoon with highs of around 8 °C.

"It will be cold again through the night so we could see a touch of frost."
