Suns out to disrupt Blues' finals plans

Gold Coast coach Stuart Dew is aiming to salvage more than just pride from this AFL season. (AAP)

Gold Coast will welcome the opportunity to deal a hammer blow to Carlton's AFL finals aspirations, as the Suns attempt to build towards next season.

Left reeling from their thumping loss to Melbourne, Gold Coast will seek redemption against the finals-chasing Blues, who are just four points behind eighth-placed Fremantle, at Marvel Stadium on Saturday.

"They've still got finals on the horizon so we expect their best, we expect a pretty intense game," Suns coach Stuart Dew said.

"They've shown in the last few weeks that their best is really, really good and that's what we plan for.

"So from our end we've got to make sure that we can disrupt that as much as possible, bring our strengths to the table.

"We also need to get on the front foot a lot more - we were up against the ropes last week and we were able to box on marginally for the first 20 minutes and then it fell away from there.

"We're looking for a really good start, get the game on our terms as much as possible because when they get a run on the they're very, very dangerous."

Dew emphasised the need for his midfield to go toe-to-toe with the likes of Sam Walsh and Patrick Cripps.

"They've got good firepower, clearly a strong midfield with some good leaders in there but we also value our leaders," he said.

"We think that we can battle away there in the midfield, because that's where it's going to be won and lost."

Dew was adamant there was plenty to salvage from Gold Coast's final three games this season.

"When you're playing for a sporting organisation, there's always something to be gained - and that's short term but also (a) springboard into next year," he said.

The Suns regained Brandon Ellis from injury while Jacob Townsend will make his club debut, with Eddie Betts returning from an ankle injury for the Blues.
