The purging of the Oklahoma City Thunder staff continues as the Phoenix Suns are closing in on bringing another one of coach Billy Donovan’s assistants to add to their staff.
After already hiring Mark Bryant off Donovan’s staff, they are closing in on another Thunder assistant: Darko Rajakovic. According to the New York Times’ Marc Stein, the Suns are closing in on hiring Rajakovic to join new coach Monty Williams’ staff.
Williams is continuing the Thunder theme as he was an assistant coach in Oklahoma City in the 2015-16 season. The new Suns coach clearly has an affinity for his old stomping grounds and Donovan’s staff is taking the brunt of it.
For Phoenix, it brings in another assistant coach who has experience in the league as Rajakovic was an assistant with the Thunder for five seasons.
He and Williams served on Donovan’s staff in the one season Williams was with the Thunder so there is a bit of a familiarity coming over to Phoenix.
