Sunrisers Hyderabad need to work on chasing totals: Daniel Vettori

HYDERABAD: Sunrisers Hyderabad's four-match unbeaten streak came to an end as they were beaten by RCB on Thursday. Chasing 207, the hosts managed only 171/8, with their famed top order failing to fire.

SRH coach Daniel Vettori said that his team needs to work on chasing down totals. "We have been successful setting totals and now we have to look at how well we are while chasing," he said.

The New Zealander said early wickets dented their chances. "It is disappointing to lose from where we have come from in the last four games. If we had some wickets in hand, we could have still chased it down. The early wickets broke everything. We were confident of chasing 206 runs. There was confidence because of the past performances," he said.

Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma have been giving SRH good starts but on Thursday, the Australian fell cheaply (1) while Abhishek scored 31 before being dismissed the fourth over. They also lost four wickets inside the Powerplay for the first time this season.

"Today they had an off day and that's cricket. Unfortunately, we didn't get the support through the middle stages. It's a tough loss but in IPL there are no easy games at all," Vettori added.

Meanwhile, RCB's Impact player Swapnil Singh, who claimed 2/40 in three overs, said, "The ball was stopping. Our main aim was to spin the ball and bowl slower. It helped." Swapnil's effort gave Bengaluru their second victory of the season.
