Sunny week ahead as high pressure takes control over UK

Spring will be in the air this week with high pressure dominating the UK’s weather with some long spells of sunshine.

A ridge will become centred over the British isles luring a period of milder, settled conditions towards the country.

It should remain dry but cool on Monday and could feel quite chilly in a brisk northwesterly breeze. There is even the risk of an occasional wintry shower in the northwest of Scotland, but sunshine will never be too far away.

High pressure will again be in charge on Tuesday with lots of fine and dry conditions. There will be a sunny start to the day but cloud will roll into eastern areas from the North Sea during the afternoon.

Winds will ease with top temperatures ranging from 12 to 14C in the south and 11 to 13C in the north, according to The Weather Channel.

Temperatures should start to climb by midweek and the mercury could surge into the upper teens C as the week progresses.

Clear days could lead to some chilly and frosty nights in places but there should be a real taste of Spring for much of the country.

However, there is a risk of more unsettled conditions returning for a spell.

Some forecasts indicate lower pressure will develop across southern areas by the weekend bringing more unsettled weather with less sunshine.

However, there is still a possibility that the high pressure could move eastwards into the near continent allowing more warmer air to rise upwards on a balmy southwesterly airflow.
