Sunny spells expected in North East over weekend as mild weather set to continue

There is still no sign of any snow on the horizon as the North East is set to remain largely dry and mild over the weekend.

The Met Office confirmed that the region will experience more of the same with sunny spells throughout the next few days as well as warmer temperatures, reaching as high as 12 or 13 degrees on Sunday .

There will be patches of rain throughout as well as stronger winds particularly on higher ground further north.

Emma Smith, meteorologist, said: "Mainly we are going to be having dry and mild weather over the weekend.

"For the rest of Friday we have got cloudy skies and some patchy rain but getting dry spells in between, continuing into tonight with temperatures at around seven degrees.

"Saturday will be quite breezy with a chance of winds further north of up to 35mph. It is going to be sunny with some patches of cloud around but it should be mostly sunny with temperatures at around nine degrees.

"It is rinse and repeat for Sunday with sunny spells but quite windy .

"On higher ground in the north you could have gale force winds as well. Because of the direction of the wind, temperatures will climb and we could be at around 12 or 13 degrees. So it is very mild for this time of year."

Temperatures are due to start dropping again at the beginning of next week with more patches of rain.

The full outlook from the Met Office is below:

Tonight

It will be a cloudy evening with rain, becoming heavy at times. Turning drier through the night but remaining cloudy with the chance of fog in places. Minimum temperature 5 °C.

Saturday

A dry day to come. The cloud will break at times to give some bright or sunny spells. Breezy but mild for the time of year. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday

Mainly dry Sunday with sunny spells and strong winds. Patchy rain on Monday interspersed with sunny spells. Dry but cloudier on Tuesday with the chance of fog overnight. Mild throughout.
